Tattered Floral Challenge - My Version

Good Evening Girlfriends!

It has been a long couple of weeks!  Everyone has been on my mind from the wild fires and flooding in Australia to the bitter cold and massive dumps of snow in Eastern Canada and the United States.  We are so lucky to be living on the West Coast of Canada!  Our winds have been hurricane force lately but the days in between storms have been beautiful!  I have been out turning the gardens bit by bit wearing a t-shirt or light sweater.. bit by bit.

My post today is inspired by a post over at the Tim Holtz Blog.  The challenge is to make flowers using the Tattered Florals die.  My first couple of tries were deep sixed into the can.  This one is really neat and I really am amazed that I came up with it!

If only things would look like they do in real life.  Photos don't do this flower justice..I think.  The other thing I am not fond of is the layout but I have always had trouble with that and, embellishing.  There should be more ribbon in there somewhere..or something!

The tag itself was first embossed around the edges with a frame stamp and Ranger Extra Fine Embossing Powder in gold.  Prior to heating it I added some hot pink glitter that I had and really like the effect.  You can hopefully see it better in the close up above.  After embossing I used some Inka Gold red and streaked it all over using a bit of water mixed in.  Inka Gold gold was streaked on top of the red and then polished with a paper towel when dry.

You can see a bit more from this side view.  To make all of the layers I mixed up different textures.  Some layers were cut from cotton quilt batting (I used scraps from one that I just finished) which were stamped with Distress Ink Gathered Twigs and then sprayed with gold Glimmer Mist.  Some were cut from webbed gift wrap from the dollar store.  The gold tinsel threads fall out fairly easy though.  Another set of layers were cut from Vellum.  Half of the flowers were embossed with Swiss Dots and the others were stamped with Distress Gathered Twigs and then light layers of Inka Gold, gold and then red.  This last type were then scrunched up for texture and volume.  Worked like a charm!

The butterfly is a Memory Box die.  The solid die cut was coloured with Distress Raspberry and Wild Honey.  I then heat embossed with chunky clear embossing powder.  The intricate die cut was cut from paper that I layered with Inka Gold gold and red.

The tag ribbon was coloured using the Inka Gold.  It worked really well!

Here is a photo of the mess present wrap from the dollar store.  I have no idea whose brilliant idea it was to call this gift wrap when it basically falls apart when you cut it.  You should have seen the mess I created when cutting it with the Tattered Floral die!

So, there you have it!  I am entering this over at the Tim Holtz blog and will see what happens.  There is a gift pack up for grabs and I hope I win!

I have posted one more for the Tattered Challenge and you can see it here!
I heard that you can post two in the challenge but it won't let me so...

Thanks for looking and I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Alcohol Inks Done Different

Victoria inspired me to bring out the alcohol inks the other day!  I used Meadow, Citrus, Lemonade, and Terra Cotta along with pressurized air for my computer.

Once I finished blowing the inks around I used the blending solution and put a drop in the middle of each colour.

There was still too much white glossy paper showing so I took a leap of faith and went around the edges with Distress Wild Honey.  The edges turned out great so I went even further to colour in all white areas.  I kind of like how it turned out!

The butterfly stamp is by Penny Black and one of my favourites.  It was stamped in Archival Black.  Once the ink was dry I used Lime Green Stickles to colour in some of the areas and the body.

Here is a closer look of the Stickles..

Thanks for looking!

Outlaws Challenge - 03-05-2012

The Greeting Card Challenge at The Outlawz this week is the colour green.  I think the background papers are from Stampin' Up! but don't quote me on that one.  The flower is actually a Penny Black sticker!  My ribbon is a sheer sage colour and I bought that at WalMart a long time ago.

Have a wonderful weekend Chicks!

Outlawz CAS Challenge - 03-03-2012

Morning Chicks!

Just a quick post today.  This is my entry for the Outlawz CAS challenge this week.  It doesn't really qualify because after double checking... the two patterned papers required are to be layered.  I'm going to tweek this card or make a new one (only took 5 minutes) that will have the patterns layered instead.

I used a Fiskars punch for the butterflies and Liquid Pearls on their bodies.  The stamp is from Inkadinkadoo and I found that in a bargain bin.

Here's another view...

Have a wonderful day!  The sun is shining... woo hoo!!

UPDATE!!
Here's two photos of the card that I redid. The challenge was to use two differnt prints and layer them.
Here is a close up view of the butterflies. My butterflies have four wings now haha!

Dots, Chicks, Dots, Chicks, Dots!

Good Evening Chicks!

I picked up this stamp a couple of weeks ago and decided to play with it tonight.  The lighting is terrible in the evenings but will have to do.

This is my interpretation of the sketch over at The Outlawz Wednesday Sketch Challenge.  There should be three things along the bottom and I'm counting the two brads and the sentiment in the middle as the other.  Guess I'm just a rebel at heart...like my friend Gail!!

Here is a closeup so you can see the stickles on the bunny ears...

Here's the recipe...

Stamp:  Stampendous! V164 Chickie hop from the Calendar Chicks collection
Sentiment:  Penny Black
Paper:  Little yellow Bicycle, Staples 110 lb. white and unknown
Fiskars punch
Ribbon - Offray from Michaels bargain bin
Copics
Diamond Stickles (I should have done fur on the ears but thought about it too late
Brads with Stickles on top
Pop Dots

Thanks for looking and I hope you all have a wonderful evening!

Trying Something Different!

Good Evening Chicks!

Well, the weekend is only hours from being over and the long work week begins. :o(  I tried making flowers like Kittie does here and then combine them into a spray here.  It's been a couple of weeks since I perused her outstanding step by step details so you will note that hers are waaaayyy better but, I did give a valiant effort!

This first card is one I did to enter a Penny Black challenge for colour.  The three colours I chose to use were white, cream and green.  The sentiment is one we all know but the stamp itself came from Penny Black.  The flowers and spray were done from memory and I added the pearls after to give it a little something extra because it looked kind of bland.  If I had Kittie's embossing folders I'd be on cloud nine!  They are gorgeous!

This second card looks sooo much better in real life!  I couldn't get the lighting in the dining room to work with me at all.  I started with a sticker from a set I bought at WalMart a while ago.  It is a clear, pearlescent (sp?) sticker that I mounted on white card stock and cut out, then popped it up.  The flowers and spray were done by memory again and I added a bit of Diamond Stickles to the tips of some petals.  Not sure if I like the ribbon along the bottom but it was part of the Wednesday Sketch Challenge.  I just took a look at the sketch again and I should have a bow on the ribbon but it would have been too much with all the flowers I think.

So, there you have it!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and I will post something again very soon!

Sheree

Odds & Sodds Times Four!

Good Evening Chicks!

I have four cards in the post tonight.  I've been working on putting them together for the past couple of days..rearranging this and rearranging that when I had a few minutes here and there.  I'm happy with the outcome although not jumping up and down haha!

This first card was done using the Penny Black stamp from the Slapstick collection.  I've been wanting this one for a very long time and accidentally found it.. up here in Campbell River!
The ducks are coloured with copics; The candy hearts are from a Fiskars set I found a long time ago on a bargain table for $1.  The background heart was cut with the Cricut and behind that is a paper doily from Wiltons.  I found a place up here where I can buy 1,000 paper doilies for $14 so may pick up some and give them away in the future!

The recipe is...
Stamps:  Penny Black & Fiskars
Paper: Recollections and Staples 110 lb. white
Copics
Ribbon:  Wally World
CuttleBug Swiss Dots
Wilton Doily

This next card is sort of a Valentine's Day card.  You can tell by the sentiment on the inside.  I used a stamp from Penny Black (Love her stuff!!) and then distressed around the edges at first and then in the middle to give it more oomph!  The background was done with the CuttleBug and then distressed with Honey.  The sentiment is one I picked from Inkadinkado after winning at The Outlawz!
The recipe is....
Stamps:  Penny Black & Inkadinkado
Paper:  Staples 110 lb white, Recollections
Cuttle Bug - Cant remember the folder name
Distress inks:  Festive Berries. Wild Honey, Versafine
Jellyroll Stardust Pen - Red

This is one of my faves from this group.  I watched a video done by Jill Foster at the Penny Black bog and  did th version by memory a few days after watching it.   Mine is nowhere near the quality of Jill Fosters but I like the bright colours.  I had to use a different stamp from Stampendous called Agapanthus cluster and stamped the image five times using a different colour each time.

The recipe is...
Stamps:  Stampendous, Studio G
Inks:  Distress Wild Honey, Preserves, Shabby Shutters, Festive Berries, Broken China
Paper:  Staples, Recollections
Bling

The fourth and final card is really quite kewl IRL.  I cut the heart out of the front cardstock with the Cricut.  Red glimmer paper was taped to the back of the opening.  It was too bare so I added two heart layers done with the Cricut as well.

The recipe is...
Stamp:  Inkadinkado
Paper:  Staples, Recollections
Stampendous heart stickers

Well, there you have it.  A glimpse of what I have been up to the past few days.  Thanks for looking and I hope you all have a wonderful week!

I Love Paris....

Good Evening Everyone!

I put this together last night.  I came close to the idea that was in my head but need to tweek the design a bit more.  Instead of heart brads holding down the corners I would love to find something that would make kewl Victorian photo holders.  Something like that would tie in with the Eiffel Tower nicely especially if it had a wrought iron look without the wrought iron price!  If I find something to use along that line I will post it at a later date!

I started by stamping on a small piece of white cardstock.  It's hard to see in the photo but I used Antique Linen Distress to stamp a background behind the tower.  The leaves and flowers are coloured with distress inks and I went outside the lines with the sponging on purpose.  Next I used a light grey copic and gave PARIS a shadow which also made them stand out more.
The mesh background is from a roll that I bought at the dollar store before Christmas.  It unravels easily but that's alright for this one.  The gold tinsel that is woven into it slides out easily so may just pull it all out next time.  I was thinking that I may distress the weave before cutting it as well.
Lastly, I accented the flowers with pink Stickles.  It made them stand out a lot more!

The recipe is:
Stamps -  Stampendous CRP144 - I Love Paris
               Penny Black 1999L Letter Background
Distress Inks - Wild Honey, Antique Linen, Shabby Shutters
Adirondack Dye Inks - Pink Sherbet
Versa Fine Black
Paper - Staples 110 lb. and unknown
Stickles
Brads
Ribbon - WalMart
Bow Easy

Have a wonderful work week!
Hugs,
Sheree

Just thought I'd share something wierd and funny with you as well.  I occasionally go into Stats to see where my viewers are coming from.  The largest source????  http://www.justforlaughsgags.tv/  I went to this link and found there's nothing there that I can see that would refer anyone to my blog.  Go figure!!

More Penny Black - CAS Card

These daisies are from the new Penny Black set called 'Flower Gallery' which I purchased at Crafty Capers in Nanaimo.  This is the second stamp that I've played with.  They did look like daisies until the Stickles made the stamp ink run a bit.  Now they have a Christmas look to them haha!

I stamped the daisies twice and coloured both.  The upper petals of both flowers were cut out and then popped up with pop dots.  I used Stickes to highlight parts of the petals and coloured the image with Copics.  After playing with the layout for a while I finally decided on something fairly simple without a sentiment.  I can stamp something inside once I figure out what to use it for!

This closeup shot shows which petals I cut out to pop up.  You also have a better view of the ink that ran!  They almost look like the white pointsettias you can buy in December!

Here's the recipe for this card....

Penny Black - Flower Gallery
Ink:  Stampin' Up!
Copics
Stickles:
Sunshine Yellow & Diamond
Embossing Folder:  Couture Creations Entangle (Reminds me of my machine quilting!)

There you have it in a nutshell!!  Thanks for looking!

Early Mother's Day Card

Hi Everyone!

Well, I did finally make time to put together a card that's been bouncing around in my head for a few days now. It didn't turn out exactly as planned as I was hoping to make some paper roses.
The main stamp is Penny Black? I'm one of those newbies who was so excited about using a new stamp that I threw away the original packaging! Now, I'm living to regret it and when I do buy new cling stamps I keep them with the packaging or label them. The sentiment is from JustRite Stampers which I purchased from Crafty Capers  in Nanaimo. This set is sew kewl as it came with the stamping block, sentiments and also the Spellbinders to make assorted tags.
The papers were from Doodlebug Design Inc. (dots), Stampin' Up! (Plain) and Little Yellow Bicycle (Plaid). The plaid one was actually in the baby section!
I coloured the image with Copics and can't remember which colours I used because I kept playing around with different ones. Bling was added around the sentiment and the glittered leaves were cut out with the Cricut (StoryBook cartridge). Ribbon is from Michael's and I made the glue dots myself with the glue gun and tinted them with Ranger Alcohol Inks. I wish that the thread colour had stood out more on the stitching so if you can't tell... it's like a peacock blue that I had left over from some quilts I made.
Thanks for looking! Please don't hesitate to critique me... I'm learning!!

Valentine For My Boys!

Good Morning!
Well... I now have glitter spreading throughout the house! We had another windy day/evening with heavy rain so spent the evening in my craft room making up Valentines for the boys as they'll all be home for a roast dinner tonight.
The papers used were Bo-Bunny, Kraft and some unknown red I had in the drawer. I used the oval Nestabilities, Cuttlebug with Swiss Dots and an unknown CB Woodgrain. The stamp is from Penny Black and the hearts were punched from Sukwang (sp?) and loaded with red glitter. I did the hearts a couple of times because I didn't put the Sukwang on the red paper first... hence having more glitter than usual flying around. My 8 month old rescue dog also helped herself to some glittered hearts and spread them around the house!
The stamp was coloured with copics and being that I wasn't adventurous it's coloured like the picture on the stamp.
